In addition to its cultural footprint, WE MAKE DC offers a flexible and visually rich environment for filming and production. High ceilings, open floor plans, modular displays, and multiple distinct design zones make the venue ideal for interviews, documentary work, lifestyle content, branded storytelling, and small‑scale activations. The space is ready for creators who need an authentic DC backdrop without extensive build‑outs.
“WE MAKE DC represents everything that makes Washington, DC a world-class creative capital,” said LaToya Foster, OCTFME Director and Film Commissioner. “From storytelling and entrepreneurship to art, culture, and community, this space captures the spirit of DC — and it gives filmmakers and creators a dynamic, production-ready location.”
WE MAKE DC features installations and products from nearly 200 local makers, offering built-in sets and creative textures that work well on camera. Through a partnership with Zesty Mic, the venue also showcases video stories of more than 100 DC residents and culture shapers. Former dressing rooms have been transformed into mural rooms inspired by each of DC’s eight wards, giving creative teams distinct visual options for filming.
Its WE Gallery presents rotating monthly exhibitions that highlight 250 years of DC history. These curated displays create cinematic backdrops for historical or culture-driven storytelling. The classroom and event area — the largest section of the venue — supports workshops, demonstrations, community gatherings, and productions that need added room for movement or audience interaction.
The Make It Bar offers drop‑in creative experiences that can be captured on camera, such as embroidered tote bags, custom hats, and other maker activities. WE MAKE DC also hosts Maker Mondays, a monthly 202Creates-powered series offering co‑working, office hours, and networking opportunities for DC creatives — all of which provide recurring filming moments that spotlight DC talent and maker culture.
The space includes a fully designed podcast room created with Zesty Mic and DotLemon, offering a polished setting for interviews, recorded conversations, and digital storytelling.
“We love living in a city that supports creative spaces,” said Stacey Price, Co‑Founder and CEO of Shop Made Brands. “It’s an honor to work with 202Creates and OCTFME in the WE MAKE DC space, and we can’t wait to produce more creative programming in the future.”
As DC prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 202Creates in September, WE MAKE DC stands as a powerful example of the creativity, entrepreneurship, and storytelling that define the District’s creative economy and the creators who make DC shine.
